This collection of 30 two-minute plays combines a little bit of everything – comic, tragic, political, personal, and abstract plays! Each brief play is performed in a random order decided by an interactive audience. An onstage 60-minute timer keeps everyone honest. If the cast doesn’t finish all 30 plays in 60 minutes or less, we’ll buy a pizza!

Little Shop of Horrors plot

Little Shop of Horrors is a horror comedy rock musical that follows a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood and flesh. The musical is loosely based on the low-budget 1960 film of the same title. The music is in the style of early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop, and early Motown, and includes several well-known tunes, including the title song, “Skid Row (Downtown)”, “Somewhere That’s Green”, and “Suddenly, Seymour”. Let the mayhem begin!

The Hitchhiker and Sorry, Wrong Number /theatre/2022/10/26/the-hitchhiker-and-sorry-wrong-number/ Wed, 26 Oct 2022 15:48:31 +0000 /theatre/?p=312 The Hitchhiker and Sorry, Wrong Number posterCome see two plays considered “the greatest audio dramas ever written”. But wait! We’re producing them entirely for the stage!

In Sorry, Wrong Number, we meet Mrs. Stephenson, a sickly woman restricted to bed with only a telephone to connect her to her 1943 New York community. When she overhears a murder plot on a crossed line, she races the clock to save an unknown woman from a date with death! Will she succeed? Can she get anyone to believe her? And why is her husband so late in coming home? Come find out!

In The Hitchhiker, young Ronald Adams sets out from 1941 Brooklyn for the sunny shores of California, but he can’t avoid seeing the same Hitchhiker over and over. Is it a trick of the mind, or has Adams entered a different, relentless roadside reality?

In our first live and in-person production since the pandemic, we present these two suspenseful plays, each masterfully focusing on the isolation each character must overcome to avoid their own bitter end.

Trigger warnings high suspense, strangulation, and existential angst.

The Me Nobody Knows /theatre/2022/05/06/the-me-nobody-knows/ Fri, 06 May 2022 21:24:03 +0000 /theatre/?p=304 The Me Nobody Knows poster

  • Music by Gary William Freidman with lyrics by Will Holt
  • Directed and produced by Julianne Johnson Weiss and Dan Hays

The Me Nobody Knows is a groundbreaking Tony-nominated and Obie Award-winning musical that has been inspiring and touching audiences throughout the world for generations. Within the envelope of a single day, the show poetically examines the aspirations and fears of a multiracial cast of young people. Inspired by actual writings of students in New York City Public Schools, the stories are universal and can be shared by and with all races. The powerful and contemporary score carries and propels each individuals journey.

The Me depicts the raw and candid experience of a demographic that has a voice not often found in musical theater. Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ aspires to bring exceprts from this powerful musical through stage and film. The spirit and themes of The Me, despite having been written nearly 50 years ago, feel completely relevant through today’s lens. In choosing this piece, the desire is to initiate inter-generational conversations reflecting on today and a time not so long ago. Take the journey with us!

The Odyssey will be produced in two parts, addressing the complex yet rich nature of what it means to return “home” as we all wrestle with racial, economic, and social justice, a post-COVID global existence, a greener environment, and new normals. Join us in coming home, to a place we’ve never been.

The Martian Chronicles /theatre/2021/04/07/the-martian-chronicles/ Thu, 08 Apr 2021 00:45:33 +0000 /theatre/?p=245 The Martian Chronicles posterJoin us for a radio-style play of Ray Bradbury’s The Martian Chronicles. Guest Director: Bobby Bermea.

The show will run approximately 90 minutes, and is appropriate for all ages. The director, crew, and cast will be live on Zoom after the show.

Synopsis

A young Martian asks another if there could be any life on Earth. “Impossible,” is the answer. “There’s too much oxygen!” However, an expedition from Earth has landed on Mars and is destroyed.

The crew of a later rescue mission is committed to a Martian insane asylum for thinking themselves “Earth men.” The involvements and interplay between the worlds and the opportunity for imaginative costumes and sets invite you, your actors, and crew into a thrilling Bradbury adventure. The Los Angeles Times called the play “a must, an experience for everyone. If theatre is the creation of magic and illusion, The Martian Chronicles is this year’s most spectacular example.”
