Computer Deployment – Employees /technology/services/computer-deployment-employees/ Tue, 30 Apr 2024 18:04:27 +0000 /technology/?post_type=pcc-services&p=4157 Computer deployment refers to purchasing, readying, and deploying a new computer to PCC employees. All technology purchasing should be facilitated through ITBUY / Procurement and their established . Once the computer is ordered through ITBUY, the vendor (Dell, Apple, Microsoft) will ship the hardware to PCC Center Distribution Services (CDS), then it will be delivered to the requesting departments’ campus via the IT Campus Team.

Note: Technology purchasing should occur 3-4 weeks before needing the new computer to ensure it is ready for employee deployment.

The IT Campus Team will unbox the computer, apply standard configurations & software, and then handle the computer drop-off task with the assigned employee. Before any computer drop-off, the requesting department needs to provide IT with the individual’s name/email (@pcc.edu) and physical office location for device assignment. If the designated employee is working 100% remotely, the requesting department will also need to schedule for the computer to be picked up by the employee at a PCC location or handle delivery arrangements. If a department is requesting a bulk purchase of computers, please engage with PCC IT to talk through the request to ensure successful computer deployments.

Larger computer deployment requests may require an IT Project Request to help better facilitate.

Google Chrome supports a majority of PCC business and educational applications, which is why it is being recommended as the primary internet browser for PCC staff, faculty, and students.

We suggest utilizing as a secondary browser. This ensures that if there are issues within one browser, a secondary is available to test with and provide the functionality needed to complete all other tasks.  Be certain that when downloading and installing Firefox, that you are not using the Extended Support Release, as this can have compatibility issues with D2L.

Microsoft Edge and Safari will function with most of what PCC has to offer. But, due to changes in security configurations, application compatibility, and additional configurations, these browsers are less reliable.

Chromebook Support /technology/services/chromebook-support/ Wed, 12 Sep 2018 23:38:34 +0000 /technology/?post_type=pcc-services&p=1624 Chromebooks differ from the traditional laptop experience by delivering ,, the , in addition to the  (Google Drive, Documents, Sheets, Slides, etc…). Traditional laptops have large storage capacity, premium hardware that allows users to install large applications, Chromebooks rely upon Google cloud storage to save files. Cloud storage for files translates to needing an internet connection to accomplish the majority of tasks that a user may have, so if mobility without an internet connection is what a user is looking for, this may not be the device for them.

While a Chromebook is substantially cheaper than a traditional laptop, areas that differ involve a diminished ability to multitask and a limited set of apps available for download. For users who are only leveraging G-suite apps and the Web though, this may be a great low-cost device for a classroom, faculty, or student.

PCC Information Technology supports multiple manufacturers of Chromebook devices, along with a management support structure for various departments and individuals within the PCC environment. For all Chromebooks, individuals are able to log in to WiFi using their PCC Credentials.
