Details about this class

This is an online course with scheduled meetings, Tuesday and Thursdayfrom 6:00pm to 8:50pm. Attendance is not graded: its ok if you are not able to attend all three hours of all meetings. Students will use an online, interactive textbook, instructional videos  and weekly coding assignments to acquire and practice basic algorithmic design and programming skills. The instructor will support students through proactive communication (e.g., announcements, email) and be available for one-on-one video chat.

The course introduces computer programming through the development of programs using the high-level programming language C++. The course content explores foundational programming skills, techniques, syntax, and tools in order to design, write, and execute simple computer programs with an emphasis on problem-solving.

Technology

All that's required is a computer with a web browser and the ability to use an online coding environment I will use GitHub codespaces, a free online vscode environment for most presentations. Alternatively, students can install an integrated development environment (IDE) such as,  or.

This course uses an online interactive textbook from which is not free. The text can be accessed using any standard web browser.

*TIP It is less expensive and a simpler process to buy from the website than the PCC bookstore.
