Details about this class

This is a front-loaded class, with homework due before lectures so that class time may be spent in different activities, drawing and labeling, and case studies.  The first homework assignment should ideally be completed before the first day of class - look for it in the week 0 module of our D2L Brightspace shell.

We do a lot of drawing, so colored pens or pencils and paper would be very useful while taking notes, or an electronic alternative.

  • Textbooks

It is important to have a lecture text for A&P (and a lab manual as well), but there is not a single "required" textbook assigned to the class.  Please buy a textbook (and a lab manual) because you will use it! Used and older versions are great and they are less $. Avoid "concepts of" texts because they are usually written for 100 level courses. You will want something with descriptions and good labeled images. Below are what I recommend (they are available in the Rock Creek bookstore or online). Whatever you buy will work for all three terms of A&P and they are good to have around for your professional programs.

    Optional lecture textbooks:

    • "Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology," Martini, Nath & Bartholomew, 12th edition, Pearson. [This has excellent labeled images, and clear text descriptions. Older, used editions are fine and available for much less money].
    • " edited by Lindsay Biga for Oregon State University, OER Openstax. [Free OER resource, but does not have as many images, consider pairing this with the optional lab book below.]

    Optional lab textbook:

    • "Marieb Human Anatomy & Physiology Laboratory Manual," Smith. 14th edition, Pearson. [Older editions are great too, and usually less money.  Look for: "Human Anatomy and Physiology Laboratory Manual," Marieb and Smith, Pearson.]
