Details about this class
Hi and thanks for checking this page! This is a remote class that meets on Zoom twice a week (online with meetings). Please look for the course notes packet at the bookstore. I will also send you the PDF if you prefer to print it yourself.
Zoom Etiquette and Participation: Our Zoom classroom works best when everyone is visible, present, and participating. Students are expected to join class with cameras on, remain engaged in discussions and activities, and contribute to a respectful learning environment. Seeing one another helps create connection and a more interactive learning experience. If you have concerns about using your camera, please reach out to discuss possible accommodations.
This class will be flipped. That means you'll watch the lecture on video and fill in the notes pages before class (except on the first day). That will give us time for discussion and practice activities during class and you may have a little homework time. You will also have time to work on your project during class. We will meet as a whole class and use breakout rooms. We will also use free online stats calculators.
My goal is to make statistics fun, relevant and meaningful. There are written and/or online assignments every week, a midterm, a project and a final. The midterm and final will be proctored live on Zoom during our regular class time. Cameras are required for virtual proctoring in all online classes. Review the for important information and requirements.
The book is free online and all the apps we use are free. We will look at a variety of topics through the data sets in the course. You can get a feel for my style of teaching through videos, old syllabi and previous course materials at . Feel free to email me with any questions at cara.lee@pcc.edu.
Technology
Our class will be held over Zoom. I will show you how to use free online stats calculators. You will need access to a computer and internet for the class meetings, online homework and to upload assignments.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
Students with disabilities
Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
