Chemistry 223Z is the last of a three term chemistry sequence designed to provide a year of general chemistry to science majors. It will meet transfer school requirements for such science majors as: chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, pre-medicine, and other pre-professional programs. The class consists of online lecture notes and a required corequisite on-campus laboratory section CH229Z. The online lecture notes are used to provide you with the basic chemical concepts and mathematical applications to chemistry. 

Because this is a science major's course, you will need to be able to demonstrate prerequisite math and chemistry skills. You must have successfully completed CH222Z or documented equivalent.

This section of CH223Z is a hybrid, flipped course. This means that 2 hours of lecture will be completed online and 2 hours of lecture and 3 hours of lab will be on campus. We’ll spend our on-campus time working on activities and experiments that will solidify your learning.  You must register for the linked sections of CH223Z and CH229Z that I teach (CRN 44841 (CH223Z) CRN 44842 (CH229Z)). While this class only meets in-person one day a week, it still requires a lot of work. In order to succeed in this course, you will need to be motivated to watch the videos on your own and come to class prepared and ready to learn. If you struggle with the material, you will need to take the initiative to ask questions and/or attend office hours (on Zoom or in-person).

To help you decide if this chemistry class is right for you, here is an outline of what your responsibilities will be. Each week you will have:

• Online lectures in video format with associated textbook readings
• Online reading quizzes
• Homework assignments
• In-class assignments
• In-class quizzes
• Laboratory experiments and activities (Note: you must also register for the linked section of CH229Z, which is the laboratory portion of the course.)

In addition to your weekly responsibilities, you will be required to take:

• Two exams 
• Comprehensive final exam
