Details about this class

Welcome to CH151!

My name is Elizabeth Ntantie, and I am excited to be your Chemistry instructor this Fall!

This course is a hybrid, flipped version of CH151, which means:

How the course works
  • Before class: You watch and study the online lecture videos on your own.
  • On Tuesdays (in person at Cascade campus):
    • Lab: 9:00 AM – 11:50 AM in JH 214 (required in person)
    • Lecture/activities: 1:00 PM – 2:50 PM in JH 104  (required in person)
  • During the lecture period, we will:
    • Discuss key concepts in the week's module
    • Work in small groups on practice activities
    • Take exams
Attendance requirements
  • There are no remote labs.
  • You must be able to attend both the lab and lecture sessions in person to take this course.
Course materials
  • Homework is completed through WebWork (free to use).
  • You do not need to buy a lab manual.
  • Lab experiments are provided in Google Docs within the course.
Weekly expectation
  1. Watch the online lectures before Tuesday.
  2. Complete an Entry Ticket (E-Ticket) before Tuesday.
  3. Attend the in-person lab (9:00–11:50 AM).
  4. Attend the in-person lecture/activity session (1:00–2:50 PM).
  5. Complete homework in WebWork.

In summary, students are expected to engage with course content online before class and then use on-campus sessions to deepen their understanding through practical activities, group work, labs, and exams.

Technology

Because part of the course is delivered online, students must have reliable internet access. A webcam is not required. Homework is completed through WebWork, which is free to students, and all lab materials are provided within the course at no additional cost. Internet access is required to access these resources.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.

Online technical requirements

Please be sure to read the quick guide to Online Learning technical requirements.
