Details about this class

Class Structure:

The class is Hybrid.  You will be required to watch online lecture videos and complete an assignment before coming to class each week.   Face to Face Lecture time will be a time to dive in deeper and do group thinking assignments and case studies.  Lab time will focus on using models, microscopes and dissections to support our learning.    F2F Lecture and Lab are not optional.    is copy of an older syllabus.  It has not been updated for Fall Term.  I will contact my class list in early September with class information.

Class Textbooks

Students are more successful when they have a lecture and lab textbook to reference throughout the A&P series.    The following are textbooks that I recommend, which are available in the Rock Creek bookstore. Used and older editions are just fine.  You can use these materials for all three classes in the A&P series, and many students also appreciated keeping them as references for their medical programs.   The Lecture book is listed as optional because you can see how you progress with the free OER book.   The lab book is listed as optional because we have copies for reference in the lab.  Students often like to have their own copy to study from.

Lecture textbooks:

  • "Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology," Martini, Nath & Bartholomew, 12th edition, Pearson. [This has excellent labeled images, and clear text descriptions. Older, used editions are available are just fine too].
  • " edited by Lindsay Biga for Oregon State University, OER Openstax. [Free OER resource, but does not have as many images.  It could be used as a reference to look up material but consider pairing this with the above book.
  • If you already purchased the Saladin book for 231 and 232, that will work fine.  You do NOT need to purchase another lecture book.

Lab textbook:

  • "Marieb Human Anatomy & Physiology Laboratory Manual," Smith. 14th edition, Pearson. [Older editions are great too, and can be purchased for much less money, look for: "Human Anatomy and Physiology Laboratory Manual," Marieb and Smith, Pearson.]. We have limited copies you can use as reference in the lab but you may want a copy to study from on your own.
