90s Throwback Hip Hop Dance
Get into your own groove with fun music and positive energy as you learn new steps. An open level introduction to hip hop with a 90s influence.

Aerial Dance
Dance in the air! Cultivate strength, vocabulary, alignment, musicality and improvisational skills using single-point trapeze, lyra (aerial hoop) and invented apparatus. It’s fun! Taught by Aaron Wheeler-Kay of the Echo Theater Company.

Aerial Explorations
Learn fundamentals on trapeze, hoop, tissu, rope and invented apparatus. Build strength, confidence and grace as you learn to fly. Apparatus varies weekly, to match interests and skill levels of the students. All levels welcome.

Argentine Tango: Beginning
Learn the principles of how to move, how to communicate with your dance partner by leading or following in a comfortable embrace, and how to listen and respond to the music. Create an enjoyable dance in the language of Argentine tango.

Belly Dance: Beginning 1
Learn the basics of belly dance while having fun in a supportive atmosphere. Increase core strength and gain flexibility. For women of all ages and sizes. No black-soled shoes.

Broadway Jazz
These uplifting and energetic classes develop a strong foundation in jazz basics. Get your body moving to classic Broadway and musical theater showtunes. Wear fitness/dance apparel and bring a water bottle. Socks or bare feet ok.

Contemporary Fusion
Mix contemporary dance styles with jazz, ballet and world dance influences. Emphasis on proper body alignment, strength and flexibility, rhythmic musical phrasing and self expression. A fun combination of global music and movement.

Cuban Salsa Dance: Casino
Move your shoulders, hips and feet in coordination with the beat of the salsa tunes of the Casino dance. Differentiate between the two kinds of Cuban claves (beat patterns) so that you can translate the music into your own body movements.

Graceful Hawaiian Hula Dance
Immerse yourself in Hawaiian culture through language, history and songs as you learn the graceful art of hula dancing. Led by an instructor with over 25 years of experience, anyone can participate in this low-impact exercise.

Hip Hop
Explore new ways of moving to hip-hop beats, pop, r&b and top 40 dance hits. Learn modern/contemporary hip-hop and funk choreography. Find your inner SWAG! Great for all levels, from beginners to experienced artists. No black-soled shoes.

Jazz 101: Beginners
Increase your strength, stamina, flexibility, fitness and self-expression while learning jazz dance technique in a creative and encouraging environment. Wear fitness/dance apparel and bring a water bottle. Socks or bare feet ok.

Lyrical Dance: Intermediate
Utilize ballet technique and modern movement to create a story through dance and song. Tell your own stories through pieces of choreography. Previous dance background is encouraged, with knowledge of basic turns, kicks and leaps.

Rock Your Body! For Absolute Beginners
Do you want to have fun and get fit? This introductory class offers elements of jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, salsa, funk and body sculpting to upbeat grooves. Wear fitness/dance apparel and bring a water bottle. Socks or bare feet ok.

Salsa Fever
Discover sizzling salsa, as well as merengue and bachata. Learn it fast and have fun on the dance floor now. Tuition is per person; no partner necessary. No street shoes.

Street Jazz Dance
Take foundational jazz and mix it with funk, soul, sass and a little hip hop. This class offers fun challenges for everyone; all levels welcome.

Swing
Learn the basics of one of the most popular and versatile dances, east coast swing. Get on the dance floor and have fun. We may also dip into west coast swing, jitterbug and hustle. Bring a partner. Tuition is per person. No street shoes.

Tahitian Dance For Fitness
Shake your way into shape while learning basic Tahitian dance steps and toning your shoulders and arms. This 50 minutes of non-stop Tahitian basics and movement class will give you a great workout while having a blast.

Ballet

Ballet: Absolute Beginners 1
Have you always wanted to learn ballet? Join this class and learn the basics of ballet technique. No experience necessary. Please wear ballet slippers, comfortable athletic dance wear and bring a water bottle.

Ballet: Absolute Beginners 2
Continue to learn the basics of ballet technique. The next step for those with little ballet experience or wishing to continue on from Beginners 1. Please wear ballet slippers, comfortable athletic dance wear and bring a water bottle.

Ballet: Beginner Intermediate
Discover ballet placement and principles of movement and alignment, in this comprehensive barre and center practice class. Participants should have basic knowledge of ballet, positions, steps and terms.

Ballroom

Ballroom Dance: Beginning – Eastside
Get started dancing on the right (or left) foot. We’ll learn basics of 3-5 of the major dances. Explore fundamental lead and follow, and moving comfortably to music around the dance floor. No partner necessary.

Ballroom Dance: Beginning – Westside
Techniques for fast and fun learning to get you on the dance floor now. Learn the basics in foxtrot, waltz, cha cha, rumba and more. No experience necessary. Bring a partner. Tuition is per person. No street shoes.

Ballroom Dance: Intermediate/Advanced – Eastside
Refine your ballroom dance skills with more advanced patterns, dances and subtleties of lead/follow and musical interpretation. More emphasis is placed on technique and development of styling. No partner necessary.

Spanish for Travelers

Planning a trip to a Spanish-speaking country? This class is the perfect chance to learn basic expressions that will help you comfortably navigate common situations. We’ll talk about culture and travel tips as well.

Spanish Conversation: Level 1

Spanish is one of the fastest growing languages in the U.S., and it’s also one of the easiest to learn! Get the basics of speaking Spanish in this fun, interactive class.

Spanish Conversation: Level 1: Fast Paced

Studied Spanish long ago but forgot most of it? Join this fast-paced beginners’ class for those with previous yet rusty experience. We’ll converse in basic present tense and quickly move to past and future.

Spanish Conversation: Level 2

Expand your ability to use Spanish in practical situations by learning more grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and conversational phrases. You’ll be speaking with confidence in no time!

Spanish Conversation: Level 2: Fast Paced

Continue your Spanish learning in the fast-paced format. We’ll converse in past, present and future. Then we’ll move on to progressive, present perfect and pluperfect.

Spanish Conversation: Level 3

This continuing class offers a third level of basic Spanish conversation and understanding. Increase your vocabulary and confidence with ease; lay the groundwork for future fluency.

Spanish Conversation: Level 4

Ready to take your Spanish skills to a higher level? We’ll build vocabulary and hone your speaking and listening skills in a supportive environment. For students with three or more terms of Spanish, or equivalent experience.

Spanish Conversation: Level 5

Ready to move beyond the intermediate level? This class will be entirely in Spanish. Suitable for those with two or more years of Spanish coursework or equivalent experience, such as living in a Spanish-speaking country.

Discovering Spanish Literature

In this round-table course we’ll read, analyze and discuss works from various genres of distinguished writers of the Spanish-speaking world. For native speakers and those with 2+ years of Spanish coursework or equivalent experience. Studying a language through its literature is an excellent way to develop vocabulary and a deeper cultural understanding. Through readings, analysis and discussion of select literary works, participants will advance their Spanish knowledge and fluency in three main areas: language, literature and culture.

Yoga: Level 1

Develop flexibility, strength, peace of mind and reduce stress in this strong fundamental introduction! Poses are fun, safe and easy-to- follow; and give you a sense of focused calm. Bring yoga mat.

Yoga for Runners and Walkers

Explore how to work effectively with your breath to improve postural alignment and reduce risk of injury, balance strength and flexibility in key muscle groups and balance effort and relaxation.

Yoga: Gental

Taste of Winemaking

Learn about Oregon’s wine industry directly from wine producers in Newberg. Explore behind-the-scenes aspects of winemaking from developing a vineyard/winery, decisions during the winemaking process and pairing wines with food. We’ll sample the final fruits of their labors! Five or more wines will be tasted each class. Students must be 21 years old or older to participate in classes serving alcohol.

Cascade Community Choir

Sing, rehearse, and perform in this new community choir. We focus on jazz, blues, rock and roll, r&b, and gospel but we also sing classical music. We put on a concert at the end of each term. Choral experience is helpful but not required.

Concert Choir

Practice and publicly perform a variety of genres, with an accompanist. Previous choral experience helpful but not required. No audition. Buy your sheet music before class begins. Rock Creek PCC Concert Choir is a non-auditioned community choir, founded in 2014 by Pollyanna Hancock Moody, Director of Choral Activities. The choir is a mixed choir open to all singers regardless of experience level. Matching pitch accurately is the only requisite for admission. The Concert Choir performs a concert at the end of every term. The concert choir is offered fall, winter and spring term. Singers are encouraged to join for the whole year. Jazz Singers Workshop 1

Learn to sing jazz as a soloist with a microphone and an accompanist, in a supportive environment. Learn to count in the band and connect with your audience, as well as proper vocal technique, repertoire and key selection.

This workshop utilizes a 50 page workbook and vocal exercise CD authored by the instructor to introduce students to the art of singing America’s indigenous music, jazz. Proper vocal technique, breath control, using a microphone, counting in, talking musician talk, connecting with the audience, repertoire and key selection are explored as well as what is swing and to do it. Telling a musical story, phrasing like you speak and designing intros and outros are also part of the workshop learning. A professional pianist is in class and a performance at a local jazz club wraps up the ten week workshop.

Jazz Singers Workshop 2

Take your jazz singing to the next level, with advanced concepts, techniques and vocal improvisation. For students who have taken Jazz Singers Workshop 1, or for instructor approval: mitzi.zilka15@pcc.edu

Open Voice

Understand your natural voice for more effective speaking, singing and communicating. Experience being open-minded, open-throated and open-hearted. Topics: body as instrument, breath and breathing, rhythm and vibrations.

Singing for the Vocally Challenged

An introduction to how to sing, including breathing, basic techniques, how to hear and stay in pitch, hold a melody and learn your range. All levels welcome. Learn to sing – or sing better – with more ease, confidence and joy. Sing easy songs from around the world to learn the basics of breath control, melody, staying on key, vocal range, and even some harmony.
