Are there any practice tests for the placement exam? /ask-the-panther/419/ Thu, 03 Nov 2022 20:14:00 +0000 /ask-the-panther/2020/04/16/are-there-any-practice-tests-for-the-placement-exam/ ALEKS for math and ACCUPLACER for reading and writing replaced the Compass placement testing system. ALEKS and ACCUPLACER tests do not require studying or practice tests beforehand.

ALEKS, our math placement test, can be done from any computer or compatible mobile device. There is no need to study beforehand – ALEKS will guide you through the process. You will need:

  • Around 90 minutes to complete the test. For your own accurate placement, do not use calculators, phones, or any outside help.
  • Log in to . On the Home Tab, click ALEKS math skills in the Quick Links channel.

The ACCUPLACER test for reading and writing composition must be taken at one of our testing centers. You should:

  • Submit the request for advisor-assisted placement form and we will be in touch shortly.
  • Study ACCUPLACER preparation tools.
  • Allow around 30 minutes to complete the test.
  • Bring valid photo identification and your PCC G number.

PCC awards college credit for qualifying AP and CLEP exam scores in most (but not all) subject areas. Check the subject areas and scores for AP and CLEP to see what can be accepted for credit.

To have your AP scores evaluated for college credit, you will need to have an official copy of your scores sent to PCC. For instructions on ordering AP scores, visit .

To get credit for CLEP, follow the American Council on Education (ACE) recommended steps for Credit for Prior Learning.

The ESOL program offers non-credit and credit classes for people whose native language is not English. Reading, writing, conversation, and American culture are stressed. These classes are open to U.S. citizens, immigrants, and refugees. A placement test is required in order to register for the courses.

Students on F-1 student visas are eligible to take the credit classes only. If you are in the U.S. on an F-1 student visa, contact Office of International Student Services. All other students should contact the ESOL office.

However, if you plan to transfer to an Oregon public university (4-year school), we recommend that you contact them about residency requirements. Oregon public universities have different rules for residency and your enrollment at a community college can affect their residency requirement. Visit the Residency page for more information.

Resident tuition for PCC applies to American citizens or immigrants with a permanent resident status in Oregon, Idaho, California, Nevada and Washington and specific types of non-immigrant visas.

He served as president from 1961 to 1978. He worked in the education field for 47 years, as a board member of Portland Public Schools, assistant superintendent for building and budget of the Portland Public School district and then superintendent of adult and vocational education before becoming the founding president of PCC.
